The past few weeks have been filled with a lot of stuff! Boxes everywhere, fabrics everywhere, mess… EVERYWHERE! But all the work has not been for nothing. As designers and lovers of beautiful things we like our offices to look beautiful too and so all the mess has a purpose – we are giving our offices a fresh, new look!
As our offices are generally where we have our design meetings with clients we want the space to speak of our own style as a company and reassure our clients that they are in good hands. An office that is full of mismatched and disjointed ideas is not ideal when your job is to create beautiful spaces. Not that our offices have been mismatched and disjointed, but it’s always good to have change and with winter fast approaching we thought it a good idea to give the space a bit of a new look – ready for the coming (already-come) cold!
The past week in Joburg has been rather chilly so we decided that we needed to get our offices ready for the chill. That meant a new coffee station, a rearranged lounge area, some new wallpaper and a fabric library so organised we’re almost too afraid to pull out any of our fabric books.
Here are some pictures to give you a glimpse into our space and the work we’ve done. What are your plans to keep warm this winter?

Scroll your way through our Colour Story. This month’s Colour of the Month from Plascon is ‘In The Mood’ and we are feeling inspired! This soft colour also happens to be their colour of the year! The colour has left us scrolling through images of some of the most lovely study areas accessorised by some greenery and touches of gold.

There are so many apps available to us these days that it’s hard to choose which ones are right for you. So for this post we’ve chosen to share with you a few of our favourite apps – our ‘must-haves’!
#1 – Mosaico
This app is definitely on the top of our list at the moment! With Mosaico you can schedule your Instagram posts to specific times of the day so that you don’t have to worry about checking on the time. Mosaico will notify you when it’s time to post so that you’re always on top of your Instagram posting. Another great feature of the app is that you can import all your images ahead of time and shuffle them around in your feed to get the perfect look. We love this app and recommend it for everyone, but it is especially helpful for businesses in a creative industry that are attempting to create a very distinguishable feel for their Instagram feed. In short, we love this app and if you don’t have it you should get it!
#2 VSCO Cam
We love this editing app – a lot! With so many editing apps to choose from its tough to find one that does exactly what you want it to do. There are several reasons we chose VSCO Cam – here are a few.
Simplicity – this app is easy to use, is simple in its interface design and results are easy to see.
Variety of choice – there are a lot of filters to choose from and tools to use in editing your image further. More filters can be purchased, but we have found this unnecessary.
Inspire – the app also has a feature which allows you. To connect with other users of the app, explore beautiful images and get inspired.
#3 – IFTTT
This app is a new one for us. It creates what they call “recipes” for dictating what is done with apps on your phone. Really it creates a pathway for apps on your phone to talk to one another. Can’t find the recipe you need? That’s not a problem because you can even create your own. We have found this app really helpful for our social media platforms. We make use of a number of platforms and with IFTTT we don’t have to go into each individual platform and repost the same content. IFTTT does it for us – we post on Instagram and the post is automatically uploaded to Facebook and Pinterest. It has saved so much time and now we never have to worry about forgetting to post content on a platform! IFTTT is definitely on our list of app crushes!
Yes, it really is! 2017 has arrived and it’s waiting for no one. A new year holds so much mystery, but there is something exciting about that. In keeping with the spirit of a new year we have decided to start the Peter Thomas Blog.
Why a blog? We believe that blogging is a way to connect with an audience in a way that is authentic and gives ‘Peter Thomas’ a voice. What we want most from this platform is that our audience would get an inside glimpse of why we love what we do and to put faces to the name of ‘Peter Thomas’. We will aim to create a space for inspiration, ideas, tips and – most of all – authenticity!
So first thing’s first, who are we? Peter Thomas Interiors is an interior design company based in Johannesburg, South Africa. We have a team of passionate designers who work hard to bring the ideas and visions of our clients to life in their homes. Nestled in the busy suburb of Parkhurst you’ll find our Home Store – a space we have created that we hope would inspire people as they explore 4th Avenue. Over many years of designing and decorating homes we have come to realise that a joyful part of homemaking is the addition of children to that home. And so, in 2016 we opened Peter Thomas Kids. “Bricks and mortar make a house, but the laughter of children makes a home” (proverb) – and that is why we are excited by the addition of Peter Thomas Kids.
Why we love what we do? We get to see land transformed and visions come to life, houses become homes, old rooms renewed, rooms being made ready for new life and the bustle of people as they pick out the perfect pieces for their homes. Our aim with any client is to do everything that we can to see that their dream home becomes their reality – it is our joy to see people happy. We love what we do because we do what we love!
Now that you know a little bit more about the Peter Thomas brand we hope that you will find this blog interesting, engaging and authentic. We look ahead to the new year with expectation and anticipation for all that it holds!
May your home always be too small to hold your friends
